Israeli air defense intercepts 2 drones from Syria: army

JERUSALEM, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) — Israel’s military said it had intercepted two drones that entered its airspace from Syria on Monday, a day after drones launched by Hezbollah from Lebanon killed four soldiers and wounded dozens.
“Two UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) that approached Israeli territory from Syria were successfully intercepted by the IAF (Israeli Air Force),” the military said in a statement.
It added that the drones were intercepted before entering Israeli territory.
The drone attacks were part of Israel’s multi-front conflict in the region, which began after Hamas’ surprise attack on southern Israeli communities in October last year. The conflict, initially centered on Gaza, has intensified and spread to Lebanon since mid-September. Militias from Syria and Iraq frequently launch drone attacks on Israeli targets to show their support for Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. ■
